To celebrate its first year of existence and support a fragile ecosystem of non-profit spaces, Gallery Artemis Fontana, founded by Pauline Beaudemont in Paris, invited some of its favorite art venues to partake in Format Mondial, a group exhibition for which every participant was invited to design a poster. The format mondial (89,5 x 128cm) was imposed.
On this occasion, CACBM presented a 1:1 scale reproduction of a section of cinder block wall from its own exhibition space. The screw holes and hanging marks visible in the image were now scarring Artemis Fontana’s as markers of shared history, acknowledging a cooperative spirit and a sense of community.
The contribution of CACBM was named hors les murs, a wordplay on the term employed in French to define offsite projects (murs meaning walls in French).
The conversation between Artemis Fontana and CACBM echoed the words of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing : This is your space, this is my space.
Our most heartfelt gratitude to Pauline Beaudemont for her generous invitation and supportive sense of community.
