CACBM was honoured to collaborate with Douglas R. Hofstadter on its latest, off-site and wearable, projet. This illustration by Hofstadter was first published in 1979 in his seminal book Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid which explores the fundamental concept of meaning, and how meaningless elements can produce meaning. This illustration is accompanied by a quote, The brain is rational ; the mind may not be.

In the beginning of 2020, CACBM lost its primary exhibition space. Behind this project lies a romantic idea that viewers not only complete an exhibition, but also carry the meaning of said exhibition with them.

Interestingly, Hofstadter recently realised that the house number of his private address is 522 and mirrors the addition 2+2=5…just like the initials of an Eternal Golden Braid mirror Gödel, Escher, Bach.
